Revolution of the 9-5
Who told you to eat 3 times a day? Have you ever questioned where that standard came from? When you were a baby, you ate when you were hungry. Where did things get so complicated?Once the industrial revolution hit, every workingman and woman enrolled into the social norm of 40-hour workweek schedules. For the employer, not allowing employees to eat would be unreasonable so they allowed strictly 1 meal per shift. This forced people to adopt the eating schedules of morning (before work), lunch (during work) and dinner (after work). As the economy grew, so did the pressure for the Baby Boomers and Gen X to lock in their pensions and 401k for their ticket to the promise land. Unfortunately, Gen Y was born into duality between doing what we’ve always been told or doing what our heart desires. Going to college to major in mediocrity and work shitty side jobs to pay for classes we don’t even want to show up to inevitably creates a huge void in our being.
If we survived 4-6 years of hell, it’s time to put on our adult pants and work for the next 40 years of our lives to have a stable life like our parents did. Just the thought of 40 years of mundane Mondays creates an even deeper void for meaning in life. To top it of, life is revolved around bills, mortgages, happy hour, and promotions. This is where the fork in the road starts to become vivid in our minds; the separation between our profession and our purpose. At this point, we’ve traveled too far down realistic rd to pursue our purpose. Therefore, the only thing that can fill this eternal void is EDM.
After our 9am-5pm monotonous work, we check into our kaleidoscopic 9pm- 5am lives. In this world, there are no expectations, no judgments, no hatred, no failures, no stress, only peace, love, unity, and respect. PLUR! In this world, the grounds are neutral and the music is universal. It’s beyond a movement, it’s greater than a culture, it as become a religion. No matter your age, background, or race, once you pass the gates, you’ve subscribed to the universalist PLUR religion and are expected treat fellow PLURmates with peace, love, unity, and respect. For those who choose to adopt this religion, an initiation process where a symbolic handshake is made and those deemed worthy are given Kandi bracelets to represent PLURpride.
For those who never been initiated, it sounds like the adult version of CandyLand. In reality it is, rainbow colors are everywhere, unlimited access to candy, and there are tigers, lions, and bears oh my! This experience has become a form of therapy where the therapist is Molly and the prescription is music. Ironically, MDMA and anti-depressants aren’t very different. They both release excess serotonin and dopamine except one is FDA approved and the other is FBI approved.
At the end of the day, there is a sense of fulfillment knowing there is a secret world where everyone can come together to be present in the moment and truly experience what it means to live. My question is why can’t we experience that in our everyday lives? If music and drugs are instant gratifiers to escape a nightmare we are living in, why not just create a life that needs no escaping?
The exponential growth of EDM in the last 5 years truly shines light on how many souls there are seeking fulfillment. When the music fades and the drugs wear of, then what? Do we just drop the universalist philosophies and forget what the world could be with PLUR?
The industrial revolution has past and the world is now seeking a spiritual revolution. I envision a world where peace, love, unity, and respect exist with or without beads and a wristband. It will be a world where every human being is either aware or in pursuit of their purpose instead of subscribing to standards that don’t belong to them.
Of the EDM culture, 1% are actual music lovers who know each DJ’s stage name, real name, origin, and are there not to participate, but to imagine themselves taking that stage and doing it better. The rest are social seekers who show up as their alter ego in hopes to get that one EPIC picture behind the DJ to blast their social media for the acceptance from the world because the acceptance from self just isn’t enough. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong about champagne spraying, bottle popping, and cake facing. What I am saying is when you do it, have you ever questioned why? If you consciously intend to black out and wake up in the forest naked, more power to you. But what about those who take conscious actions with unconscious motives?
I believe every soul has an innate desire to fulfill its purpose whether the mind is conscious of it or not. Everything we do and don’t do is linked to our underlying purpose and discovering that purpose will not only help you understand what drives you, but also where you’re driving to.
Since 17, I’ve imagined a world of higher consciousness of purpose; a world where we see others not in comparison to us, but as their true selves. The spiritual revolution is well underway. I have served my purpose in bringing awareness to you and now it’s your choice to acknowledge your reason for existing or be extinct.
